Year 3

 Welcome to Year 3!

In Year 3 at The Radstone Primary School we support the transition into Key Stage 2 by encouraging independence and continuing to build on the fundamentals taught in Key Stage 1.

Throughout the year we will be covering lots of exciting topics in all curriculum subjects. Some of these will include The Romans, The Anglo-Saxons, the text Stone Age Boy and the short film Mr. Hublot.

Also in Year 3, we have a very exciting Residential trip to Everdon.

Some Key Information about Year 3

Kinetic Letters: Bounce the Brave Monkey and Skip the Scared Monkey help us to understand our letter formation and position in our Kinetic Letters handwriting sessions. The children in Year 3 will take part in their daily handwriting session every morning where we will focus on building muscle strength for writing and correctly forming letters leading to joining our letters up later in the year.

Spelling: The children will all have an exciting spelling session on a daily basis following the Read Write Inc Spelling programme. You can find out more about RWI here.

Book Talk: Sessions take place most days where the children share texts as a group with the aim of building their comprehension skills using the Reading Rainbow.  This encourages the children to focus on particular ‘lenses’ and give them confidence in identifying evidence in the text to support their ideas and opinions.  Additionally, levelled reading books are given out each week for both class work and reading at home.

PE lessons will take place on a Thursday with Mrs Keites (PE Specialist Teacher). We would appreciate it if all children could bring a full, named PE kit/cold weather kit which will remain in school. Please can long hair be tied back and earrings removed on this day. Please ensure all kit is named. The children will go Swimming every Wednesday on the minibus, from the beginning of Year 3. This is taught by Mrs Bond (Specialist Swimming Teacher) and supported by Mrs Montague and the class teacher and teaching assistant. Goggles are not recommended unless there is a medical benefit and will only be permitted if a consent form has been signed.

Music will take place every Wednesday with Mrs Diedhiou (Music Teacher) where the children will learn exciting new songs, play different instruments and begin to read music.

Year 3 are taught by Mrs Tseronis (Teacher – Monday and Friday) and Mrs Wilson (Teacher – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) with Miss Miller (Trainee Teacher).

Please follow our exciting learning journey throughout the year on ClassDojo, Twitter @RadstonePrimary and Facebook @TheRadstone to keep up to date with what is happening in the classroom.
