Year 3

Autumn Term

Key Information

* * * Please remember that all pupils in Year 3 are expected to wear a tie. These are clip-on for safety however it is compulsory to have one every day. The only exception is for girls wearing a Radstone pinafore dress. * * *

Year 3 is taught by Mrs Wilson (Tues, Wed & Thurs) Mrs Tseronis (Mon & Fri) and supported by Miss Miller.

We will be covering a lot of exciting topics, so please follow us on ClassDojo, Twitter @RadstonePrimary and Facebook @TheRadstone to keep up to date with what is happening in the classroom.

PE this term will take place on Mondays. Please ensure that children have a full PE kit (both indoor and outdoor) in school at all times and that they remove all jewellery for these lessons.  We expect all children to be able to remove their own jewellery (including earrings) by themselves and long hair must be tied up.

Swimming lessons will take place on Wednesday.  We will swim from 2-2:30. Again, for these lessons we expect the children to be able to remove their own jewellery and be competent in applying their own swimming hat.

Our topics for this term are ‘The Stone Age to the Iron Age’ (History), 'Our World' (Geography) and ‘Forces and Magnets’ and ‘Animals including humans’ (Science).  In English we will be carrying out work based on Roald Dahl and his books and 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes.

Please consult our Autumn 2019 Curriculum Newsletter (below) for more details about the topics covered.

This term we are looking forward to a trip to the Roald Dahl Museum and Children’s Gallery in Aylesbury to learn more about the famous author and the things that inspired him to write, as well a performance of ‘Prehistoric Park’ to help us with our learning in History.  We are also hoping to visit a local supermarket to research where some of the different food that we eat comes from.

We look forward to seeing you at Parents’ Evening and at our Everdon information evening in November.

Home Learning

Year 3 homework expectations are as follows:

Maths - For the first half of the Autumn term we would like the children to revise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables so that they are able to recall them instantly and in any order.  After half term we will continue to work on these times tables but the focus will be on the associated division facts. The children should also be using Times Tables Rockstars regularly at home.

Reading - It is expected that the children read and/or listen to you read (either their school reading book or a book of their choice) for at least 10-20 minutes on a daily basis to help to develop their enjoyment, fluency and comprehension skills. This reading must then be recorded in their Reading Records which should be brought into school each Wednesday to be reviewed.

Spellings – Weekly spelling lists to learn will no longer be sent home.  Please see our Autumn ‘Home Learning’ sheet for further details.

Creative Homework -This is to be based on our Science and Humanities topics (see above).
