Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

In Year 4 at The Radstone Primary School we want to continue to build on the progress from Year 3 and prepare them for a smooth transition into Upper Key Stage 2.

Throughout the year we will be covering lots of exciting topics in all curriculum subjects. Some of these will include: The Vikings, Hinduism, States of Matter and the short animation Feast.

Some Key Information about Year 4

Kinetic Letters Bounce the Brave Monkey and Skip the Scared Monkey help us to understand our letter formation and position in our Kinetic Letters handwriting sessions. The children in Year 4 will take part in regular handwriting sessions where we will focus on building muscle strength for writing and correctly forming. This year there will be a big focus on correctly joining letters.

Spelling The children will all have an exciting spelling session on a daily basis following the Read Write Inc. Spelling programme. You can find out more about RWI here.

Book Talk Along with other reading activities, the children will take part in regualr ’Book Talk’ sessions led by their class teacher. Within these lessons the children will focus on particular reading lenses from the ‘Reading Rainbow’ (See information section below).  Within these sessions the children will build upon their vocabulary list and develop their comprehension skills.

PE lessons will take place on a Thursday. We would appreciate it if all children could bring a full, named PE kit/cold weather kit.  Please can long hair be tied back and earrings removed on this day.

Music will take place every Tuesday with Mrs Diedhiou (Music Teacher) where the children will learn exciting new songs, play different instruments and begin to read music.

Year 4 are taught by Mr McGillivray & Mrs Leese. Supported by Mrs Allen (TA) and Mrs Jacobs (TA).
