Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

In Year 5 at The Radstone Primary School we want to continue to build on the progress from Year 4 as we begin Upper Key Stage 2.

Throughout the year we will be covering lots of exciting topics in all curriculum subjects. Some of these will include: The Ancient Egyptians, Space, Sustainability and The Ancient Greeks.

Some Key Information about Year 5

We have an exciting residential trip to look forward to in year 5 to Everdon Outdoor Learning Centre. Photographs will be uploaded upon our return!

Kinetic Letters: Bounce the Brave Monkey and Skip the Scared Monkey help us to understand our letter formation and position in our Kinetic Letters handwriting sessions. The children in Year 5 will take part in regular handwriting sessions where we will focus on building muscle strength for writing and correctly forming. This year there will be a big focus on correctly joining letters, all children will write in pen throughout year 5.

Spelling: The children will all have an exciting spelling session on a daily basis following the Read Write Inc. Spelling programme.

Book Talk: Along with other reading activities, the children will take part in regular ’Book Talk’ sessions led by their class teacher. Within these lessons the children will focus on particular reading lenses from the ‘Reading Rainbow’. Within these sessions the children will build upon their vocabulary list and develop their comprehension skills.

PE lessons: will take place on a Wednesday. We would appreciate it if all children could bring a full, named PE kit/cold weather kit.  Please can long hair be tied back and earrings removed on this day.

Music: will take place every Tuesday with Mrs Diedhiou (Music Teacher) where the children will learn exciting new songs, play different instruments and begin to read music.

Year 5 are taught by Miss Borton (Class teacher) and Mrs Allen (Teaching Assistant).

Please follow our exciting learning journey throughout the year on ClassDojo.
